Munich, Germany, 1 October 2025 – Marvel Fusion, the global leader in laser-driven inertial fusion energy, today announced key leadership appointments to advance its technological roadmap toward building the world’s first commercial fusion power plant in the 2030s.
As of 1 September 2025, Prof. Dr. Hartmut Ruhl has been appointed as Managing Director and Chief Science Officer. In this role, he will be responsible for the science and technology strategies of the company. He will continue to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among academia, industry, and government institutions. Prof. Ruhl holds the Chair of Theoretical Physics at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
Prof. Ruhl succeeds Dr. Georg Korn, who is stepping down from his role as Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer, but will remain a key member of the leadership team as senior technology expert.
Marvel Fusion has appointed Dr. Katrin Suder as Chairwoman of the Advisory Board, effective 30 September 2025. With a PhD in theoretical physics and senior leadership experience in consulting, public service, and industry, she brings crucial expertise to support Marvel Fusion’s business trajectory from technology development to commercialization. Dr. Suder previously served as State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Defense and was a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company.
Dr. Lutz Aschke joined Marvel Fusion on 1 October 2025 as Director Laser Strategy to enhance the company’s laser development and scale the supply chain. Dr. Aschke brings extensive leadership experience from the photonics industry, having held senior management positions at Trumpf, Schott and Limo. In addition, Dr. Christian Stoeckl will join Marvel Fusion on 1 November 2025 as an Expert Experimental Scientist. He brings over 30 years of experience in laser fusion and diagnostics development. He has served as Chief Scientist for the OMEGA EP laser system at the University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics.
